What began as a simple trip to pick up her tax returns
turned into a whirlwind event that captured the heart of a local celebrity and
led to a sold-out motorcoach tour through the heart of Amish Country — all thanks to a three-wheeled motorcycle, a
5-pound Pomeranian and a business card.
LaVonne DeBois, owner and tour guide of Amish Table
Talk LLC, has been promoting tourism since 1991. DeBois rolled up to her local
tax office on her signature three-wheel motorcycle with her Pomeranian Tiny perched in tow. During a friendly conversation inside, DeBois handed her tour business
card to one of the seasonal helpers, who happened to be Robin Swoboda,
beloved Northeast Ohio media personality.
Intrigued by the idea of a guided tour through Amish
Country, Swoboda reached out to DeBois shortly after. The two quickly connected
and set a date for a one-day tour. DeBois secured a 55-passenger luxury
motorcoach and crafted a culturally rich itinerary showcasing the traditions and beauty of Holmes County, and Swoboda announced the event in a Facebook video.
The response was overwhelming. The tour sold out in under 24 hours with a waitlist in place.
“Robin's genuine love for people and curiosity about Amish
culture struck a chord,” DeBois said. “It's proof that when you lead with
heart, people respond.”
Swoboda, who first rose to fame as co-anchor of WJW-TV 8 in Cleveland
after moving from her home state of Missouri in 1986, is known for her humor,
authenticity and deep connection with viewers. Her career spans decades in
broadcasting including co-hosting "The Morning Exchange," appearing as a celebrity square on "Hollywood Squares," and
taking on small roles in films such as “The Avengers” and Cleveland’s own “Made
in Cleveland.”
“Holmes County is like stepping into another world — one
that reminds us of the value of simplicity, craftsmanship and community,”
Swoboda said. “I can't wait to experience it alongside people who love
discovering new things. We’re going to have a fabulous time.”
The collaboration between DeBois and Swoboda is more than
just a sold-out tour — it's a testament to the power of local connection,
spontaneity and shared curiosity.
Due to popular demand, a fall overnight tour is being
planned.
