Alyssa Hochstetler has been named the recipient of the 2025 Wayne County Historical Society Softball Student-Athlete of the Year.
The scholarship is a $2,000 monetary award that goes to a Wayne County softball player who demonstrates excellence off the diamond and on the field of play. Hochstetler will take her talents on the softball field and in the classroom to Malone University, where she plans to major in nursing.
The award is sponsored by Dick Stull, a longtime supporter of local softball. The WCHS is appreciative of Stull's support financially and his interest in the development of local athletes and area sports in general.
Hochstetler is a 2025 graduate of Triway High School. She earned a letter in softball in her sophomore, junior and senior years while playing for one of the best softball programs in the area. She has been a multidimensional player who has played second base, left field, pitcher and as an all-around utility player.
She has earned numerous honors including All-Northeast Ohio honorable mention as a junior. She was an Ohio HS Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Scholar Athlete, a first-team selection to the Principals Athletic Conference softball team and was named to play in the Wayne-Holmes Future Showcase.
She earned a 3.9 GPA during her four years at Triway High and has earned the respect of her teachers, coaches, teammates and classmates.
Jennie Bishko, Triway High School dean of students and a softball coach, commented on the impact of Hochstetler on her team: “Alyssa's commitment to excellence and ability to uphold the values of the team contributed to the overall success of our team. Her true passion for the game and her integrity gained her the utmost respect of her teammates.”
Triway High School social studies teacher Cari Ciconnetti described Hochstetler: “As a student, Alyssa has always portrayed extreme maturity, kindness and respect towards others.”
In her spare time, Hochstetler has worked for the Pine Tree Barn, Ramseyer Farms and TJ Maxx and also has found time to umpire for youth softball games while playing traveling softball during the summer.
