Historical Society Hall of Distinction names members

The Dover Historical Society will hold its annual meeting Sunday, April 6 at 1 p.m. at the Reeves Carriage House in Dover. The highlight of the meeting will be the induction of new members to the Dover Historical Society Hall of Distinction.

The individuals being inducted are Rex Ray, Russ Volkert and Rachel Silverstone. Clayton Callender will be honored as Citizen of the Year. Each will be introduced by a member of the historical society’s board of trustees.

Ray was a 1960 graduate of Dover High School. He had a career in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of colonel.

Volkert has been the chief of the Dover Fire Department since September 1997. Additionally, he was a member of the Historic Canal Dover Association and was instrumental in helping raise $2.3 million toward the development of the Dover Riverfront Park.

Silverstone (May 15, 1931, to March 8, 2023) was the driving force behind the establishment of the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.

Callender, a 2022 Dover High School graduate, served as the head drum major for two seasons at Ohio State University.
