Garaway boys race to runner-up finish at district meet
Travis and Palmer pace Pirates to regional berth; Reneker, Yoder advance for girls squad.
The Garaway boys cross country team advanced to regionals as a team by finishing second at the Division IV Cambridge District on Oct. 18.
Carter Travis finished second in 16:59 and Nic Palmer third in 17:01 to lead the Pirates. Bryce Johnson finished 20th (19:03), Aaron Asbury 22nd (19:09) and Austin Swartzentruber 35th (20:21) to round out the scoring.
Girls cross country
Garaway’s Laynee Reneker and Rebecca Yoder advanced to regionals by finishing 21st and 30th, respectively, at the Div. IV Cambridge District on Oct. 18.
Reneker crossed the finish line in 22:54 and Yoder in 24:12.
Volleyball
Garaway’s season came to an end with a 25-21, 25-20, 24-26, 22-25, 16-14 loss to Shenandoah in a Div. VI sectional final on Oct. 16.
Audrey Miller (20 kills, 22 digs, nine aces), Charlee Yoder (50 assists, 21 digs), Quinn Schwartz (11 kills, four blocks), True Tango (10 kills, 19 digs), Kyleigh LaCroix (nine kills, two blocks), Hailey Yoder (four blocks), Gina Beachy (12 digs), Kenya Njoroge (10 digs), and Sydney Miller (nine digs) led the Lady Pirates (14-9).
