Buckeye Career Center hosted 68 English language learners from Dover and New Philadelphia schools on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Students received a building tour, visited the current Buckeye Built House that is currently under construction and reviewed program offerings with BCC marketing staff.

The students picked four specific labs they would like to visit and were guided to those labs by marketing staff, BCC student translators and their partner school translators. They also participated in a lab-specific activity while visiting their selected labs.

This English as a second language visit is in addition to sophomore visits that the students were able to participate in earlier this school year.

“Buckeye wants to give everyone the opportunity to see what we have to offer for their high school experience,” said Heather Coletti, BCC marketing coordinator/instructor. “Providing English language learners with this customized experience allows them to have one-on-one translation and the chance to learn more about each program to see if it is what they would like to pursue.”

This is the second year Buckeye Career Center has offered this visitation day for students learning English with great success in 2017.

“We had a great response from the visitors, our students and staff," Coletti said. "The increase in ESL learners here at Buckeye has proven that this day makes an impact on their knowledge of Buckeye and what it can do for their future. We are looking forward to this year's visitation."

Student visitors also received Spanish language copies of Buckeye’s student application and a course catalog to help them along the way as they decide if they would like to attend the career center for the remainder of their high school years.
