East Holmes board approves Beechy as head varsity girls soccer coach

Board also approves calendar items, personnel actions and coaching assignments during its Dec. 19 meeting

The East Holmes Local Schools Board of Education approved routine business items and personnel actions during its regular meeting Friday, Dec. 19.

During the approval of the agenda, board member Laurel Miller was thanked for her tenure with the school board.

During the superintendent’s report, Hiland-WKLM Student of the Week recipients were recognized: Alissa Yoder for Nov. 24-28, Norah Bickel for Dec. 1-5, Jacob Miller for Dec. 8-12 and Lily Yoder for Dec. 15-19. The board also received building and supervisor reports and heard a security assessment report.

The board approved the treasurer’s report including payment of bills and acceptance of the November 2025 financial and reconciliation report. Members also approved a “then and now” certificate for Tom Mullet Tours in the amount of $10,000 for a middle school field trip and accepted a donation from the Keim Home Center consisting of items for Hiland’s theater department.

Several new business items were approved including calendar draft No. 1 for the 2026-27 school year; renewal of the Ohio School Boards Association membership for January through December 2026; renewal of the Ohio School Boards Association Legal Assistance Fund consultant service contract for January through December 2026; a resolution to administer third grade English/language arts and mathematics assessments in a paper format for the 2026-27 school year; approval of the Hiland eighth grade class field trip to Washington, D.C., scheduled for April 29 through May 1, 2026; and approval of NEOLA Special Update Transportation Supplement policies dated October 2025.

In a separate new business motion, the board approved Julia Klink as president pro tempore for the Jan. 9, 2026, board meeting.

Personnel items approved included the resignation of Amy Rowe, testing and curriculum administrative assistant, effective Jan. 5, 2026. The board also approved substitute personnel hired by East Holmes Local Schools and the Tri-County Educational Service Center for the 2025-26 school year.

Supplemental positions for the 2025-26 school year were approved: Chris Dages as baseball head varsity coach; Richard Mast as baseball varsity assistant coach; Kevin Schrock as baseball head junior varsity and freshman coach; Jordan Yoder and Chad Wagler as baseball volunteer assistant coaches; Kari Sparling as softball head varsity coach; Maddie DeVault as softball varsity assistant coach; Jana Immel as softball volunteer assistant; Carrie Jones as head tennis coach; Mark Leinbach as varsity assistant tennis coach; Megan Amos as head boys and girls varsity track coach; Erin Bille as Washington, D.C. trip coordinator; Scott Bodiker as Washington, D.C. trip chaperone; Reis Bonifant as Washington, D.C. trip chaperone; Erin Bille as Washington, D.C. trip chaperone; Carrie Wigton as Washington, D.C. trip chaperone; and Matt Beechy as head girls varsity soccer coach.

The board entered executive session at 8:13 a.m., with consultant David Morgan and school resource officer Brent Bernhart joining the board in executive session. The meeting returned to open session at 9 a.m.

The board then adjourned the meeting.
