The Tuscarawas County Public Library System incorporates information about early literacy skills into its storytimes to help parents and caregivers equip children with the tools they need to be ready to read upon entering kindergarten.

“All of the activities we do in storytime — the stories, songs and movements — are designed to help young children develop literacy skills,” children’s services manager Mary Smrek said. “Storytimes also provide an opportunity for children and parents to come together, which helps to build key social skills in children and to create friendships among parents.”

Storytimes across the Tuscarawas County Public Library System will begin the week of Jan. 20 and run through the week of March 24. Storytimes may include songs, crafts, movement and more.

Each branch of the Tuscarawas County Public Library System has weekly story time offerings to attend for birth through age 5. Families can visit the online event calendar for specific times and locations.

—Preschool story time for age 3-5 at the Tuscarawas County Main Library every Monday at 1:30 p.m.

—Coffee Shop Storytimes for birth to age 5 at Lock 15 Coffee Shop, 139 S. Main St., Tuscarawas, select Wednesdays in January and April at 10:30 a.m.
