Sugarcreek Village Council amended and held the second reading of a resolution adopting a statement of services to be provided to the territory proposed for annexation in a petition filed by Skyline Meadows School with the Tuscarawas County Board of Commissioners. The land to be annexed borders Mike’s Lane on the west and Skyline Drive on the east.
“We need to amend the resolution because in the annexation it needs to be determined who will maintain Skyline Drive and who will maintain Mike’s Lane,” Solicitor Doug Frautschy said. “It was decided that Mike’s Lane will continue to be maintained by the Sugarcreek Township Trustees and Skyline Drive by the village.”
Mayor Walt Wilson asked council to approve participation in a class action lawsuit related to chemical testing in the village water system.
“It is at no cost to the village to test the water for chemicals,” Wilson said. “At some point the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency will provide requirements for testing.”
Council approved the request.
Council also did the following:
—Updated the list of properties requiring mowing; most have since been mowed by property owners.
—Learned street paving throughout the village is complete, and the railroad crossing on Ohio 39 has been repaired.
—Heard work on Maple Street is expected to resume July 28 following a meeting between the contractor and village engineer.
—Heard the water tower near McDonald’s has been repaired and is back in service.
—Appointed Geneva Miller, an emergency medical technician, to the fire department.
—Learned the cost to install a water tank at the wastewater treatment plant will be $33,000, with the tank company covering half. Delays led to a roof being installed before the tank arrived, requiring a 2-foot doorway to be added for installation.
—Held the second reading of an ordinance to set water and sewer rates. A senior and hardship discount will remain, with the poverty threshold expanded from 150-200%.
—Thanked council for the new pickleball courts, which Mayor Wilson said are being used daily: “We like to provide for the community when we can.”
