Attack Team wrestlers advance to OAC state tournament
Nash Conkle and Jordan Vaughn qualify for OAC state event after strong performances in Steubenville.
Holmes Area Wrestling Club Elementary Attack Team members Nash Conkle (second grade) and Jordan Vaughn (fourth) finished in the top four of their respective weight classes Feb. 22 at the Ohio Athletic Committee Grade School State Tournament District Qualifier at Steubenville High School and punched their tickets to the March 28-29 OAC Grade School State Tournament.
Conkle (Division II, 61, 3-1, one fall) finished second while Vaughn (IV, 71, 4-1, two) finished third. Just missing out on a state berth was Dawson Miller (sixth, IV, 80), who finished fifth with a 3-2 record with three falls, earning state alternate status.
“It always amazes me at the level of wrestling while watching these OAC grade school events,” said West Holmes High School wrestling coach Scott Vaughn, who filled in as coach for Attack Team coach Jarret Mathie, who was unable to attend the district qualifier. “I have been to the Maysville and Steubenville districts this season, and these young wrestlers are very impressive.”
Attack Team wrestlers qualifying earlier in the season for the OAC state tournament were Sawyer Hood (fifth) and sixth-graders Chansen Hart and Fletcher Hawkins. Hood and Hawkins will make their first trip while Hart’s state berth makes it three straight (2024-26).
