Apple Creek gets federal funds for flood control

U.S. Rep. Max Miller recently announced several water infrastructure projects important to Northeast Ohio for which he advocated were authorized by the Thomas R. Carper Water Resources Development Act of 2024. WRDA originally passed out of the House of Representatives in July 2024, and earlier in December, the House of Representatives passed the Senate’s amended version by a bipartisan vote of 399-18.

The Village of Apple Creek’s project for flood control stormwater management is among those in Miller’s district benefiting from the bill.

“It’s been a long road to secure this funding that brings tax dollars back home to Northeast Ohio to make our communities safer and stronger,” Miller said. “I’m proud that this bill is finally headed to the president’s desk.”

Miller worked with local officials to advance 11 projects for consideration, of which nine were included in the bill. The projects focus principally on reducing flood and storm damage, improving navigable channels, and restoring water and wastewater systems to improve public safety and economic security.

The Water Resources Development Act is biannual legislation designed to foster economic growth and preserve natural resources in local communities. Through WRDA, Congress authorizes water resource projects that are administered through the Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works.

Miller represents Ohio’s Seventh District, which includes Medina and Wayne counties and parts of Cuyahoga and Holmes counties.
