Lake library to host ‘Melodies in Motion’ with Canton Symphony Oct. 23

Interactive program for children combines stories, music and movement in partnership with Canton Symphony Orchestra

Stark Library’s Melodies in Motion series in collaboration with the Canton Symphony Orchestra will bring stories, music and movement to children at the Lake Community Branch Oct. 23.

The Stark Library is bringing stories, song and movement to children this fall through its “Melodies in Motion” series, which travels across Stark County branches and concludes with a special installment at the Lake Community Branch on Oct. 23.

The series blends literature, music and dance in interactive programs designed for preschool and elementary-aged children. Librarians pair storytelling with live performances from local musicians and dancers, inviting young participants to move along as tales unfold.

Events begin in mid-October, with sessions hosted at branches including Perry Sippo, East Canton, North, Madge Youtz, the Main Library, Southgate, DeHoff Memorial, Plain Community and Jackson. Each stop features different artistic partners, such as the Canton Ballet and the Canton Symphony Orchestra, creating unique variations on the same theme of combining rhythm, motion and narrative.

The Lake branch event, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Oct. 23, will feature musicians from the Canton Symphony Orchestra. During the program, children will listen to stories enhanced by live accompaniment and expressive movement activities designed to make the reading experience more dynamic and engaging. As of the latest update, more than 60 spots remained available, though registration is required.

Library officials say Melodies in Motion gives families a chance to experience literacy in new ways, helping children connect words and music while fostering creativity and community connection.

More information and registration details are available on the Stark Library’s events website.
