Sunlight streams through the new windows and solar tubes of the Kaufman Center at Lake Center Christian School, illuminating bright, open spaces designed for learning and collaboration. On Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., the community is invited to experience this transformation firsthand at a special open house and dedication.
For nearly 40 years, the Kaufman Center has been the heart of campus life, where faith and community come together. In 1987, Howard R. Miller Sr. and Sarah Miller led volunteers to create a building that supported Christian education. Over the years, it has hosted fish frys, auctions, weddings, concerts, graduations, plays and countless school events, serving as a gym, student lounge and hub for fellowship.
The center has now been transformed through a $1.2 million renovation funded by private donations. It features modern classrooms, collaborative spaces and offices designed to inspire learning, creativity and spiritual growth. Before construction began in 2025, students wrote Scripture verses on the building’s beams, grounding the renovation in faith.
A highlight of the open house will be the dedication of the Howard and Sarah Miller Commons, honoring the couple whose leadership and hospitality brought the Kaufman Center to life. Guests can also view the Kaufman Center Timeline Wall, chronicling the building’s journey from its 1987 groundbreaking through decades of milestones and its recent renovation.
“The Kaufman Center has always been more than a building — it’s a place where faith, learning and community come together,” said Dr. Tim McAboy, head of school. “This renovation honors our history while preparing students for the future.”
The event will conclude with a dedication and prayer at 6:15 p.m. Lake Center Christian School is located at 12893 Kaufman Ave. NW in Hartville.
Founded in 1947, Lake Center Christian School provides K-12 Christ-centered education to 972 students on its Hartville campus, nurturing learning, faith and service to Christ.
