Arriving in St. Clairsville for an OHSAA sectional final, the Harrison Central volleyball team found itself up against a determined St. Clairsville squad ready to finish the night’s work quickly. The Tuesday, Oct. 14, contest lasted just three sets as the Red Devils delivered a commanding performance that would have challenged any opponent.
The opening set sent a clear message of what was to come. Harrison Central managed just 12 points as St. Clairsville jumped out to a 10-point lead and maintained control throughout. The Red Devils led 22-11 and 23-12 before closing out the set 25-12.
The second set began with a spark from the Huskies as Hanah Grady served three consecutive aces. But St. Clairsville quickly regrouped, taking a 6-4 lead and extending it to 14-7. The Huskies added a few points, but the Red Devils dominated the rest of the way, pulling ahead 20-12 before sealing another 25-12 set victory.
The third set proved the most lopsided. St. Clairsville opened with an 11-0 run before Harrison Central scored its first point following a timeout by head coach Grace Godich. The Huskies added a handful of points but trailed 19-6 before posting their final score of the night at 24-7. The Red Devils completed the sweep with a 25-7 win to advance.
One notable highlight of the evening was the low number of service errors — only five combined between both teams — a reflection of the continued improvement and discipline on both sides of the net.
