The 91st annual Scio Summer Fest will be held Aug. 21–24, with events and entertainment for all ages at the firehouse parking lot and the old school lot.
Opening day, Thursday, Aug. 21, features the 32nd annual Kids 1-Mile Fun Run, Family Fun Walk and the 40th annual Scio Scramble 5K Race/Walk. Registration is available online at runsignup.com or by mail. The Harrison Central High School, junior high and biddy cheerleaders will perform at 6 p.m. at the Main Stage, followed by a cornhole tournament at the same time. The Tumbleweed Band will perform country and variety hits at 7 p.m.
On Friday, Aug. 22, the Scio Branch Library will host Story Time and Craft at 5 p.m. Buckeye Axe Throwing will be available from 6-9 p.m. in the old school lot. Chillbillyz will play 1980s and 1990s country at the Main Stage at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 23, is filled with activities. A pickleball tournament will begin at 8 a.m. at Barr Memorial Gym. Local talent Shay Bonnell will perform at noon on the Main Stage, with a cornhole tournament also set for that time. The ninth annual Pet Show will begin at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m., the Rumley Renegades will perform classic rock at the Main Stage. The 91st annual Scio Summer Fest Grand Parade will start at 6 p.m. along the old route, with lineup beginning at the former Scio Pottery and American Legion on Crimm Road. After the parade, Seven South will take the Main Stage at 8 p.m. with hits from the 1990s and 2000s.
Sunday, Aug. 24, begins with the 40th annual Scio Show and Shine at Scio Community Park. At 9:30 a.m., Faith at Summer Fest will hold a church service at the Main Stage, with coffee, juice and donuts provided by the festival committee. Dusty Carpenter will perform at noon. Ride wristbands will be available from 1-6 p.m. for $20. The Great Conotton Creek Duck Race will be held at 2 p.m., followed by Twice as Nice with dance music on the Main Stage. Festival royalty will be crowned at 5 p.m., with the merchant's drawing at 5:15 p.m.
The Flower and Garden Show will be on display throughout the festival, and Legion Bingo will be held inside the firehouse. The Scio Museum will be open Saturday, Aug. 23, from 5-8 p.m. to showcase Scio Pottery, Scio memorabilia, and high school memorabilia. The Bird Nerds will return with exotic birds and animals.
Bigtop's Magic Midway will provide rides all weekend. Wristbands are $20 per day, good for Saturday from 1-11 p.m. and Sunday from 1-6 p.m. Advance wristbands can be purchased for $15 until noon Aug. 20 at The Restaurant, B&F Dairy Bar, Pemmi's Pizza, Scio American Legion and J.T. Thompson.
