It was a day of fun and entertainment for residents of the Harrison County Home Friday, Oct. 24, when the facility’s activities department, nursing staff and other employees hosted a Halloween celebration that residents described as very entertaining.
Costumes, treats, music and laughter filled both floors of the facility. Music for the event was provided by DJ Ronnie Beard, and family members and volunteers joined in to help make the day and evening full of festive fun.
“Though everyone was pleased with the event, several residents commented on what a great time they had,” said County Home Activities Director Kim Burgins. “I really enjoyed myself as I watched the residents unveil all the different costumes. The music really was fantastic and matched the occasion.”
“I really enjoyed the music and the laughter the most,” said resident Noel Evans.
“This was really fun. I have never had such a great time,” said resident Hazel Wood.
The event was held in the new addition to the facility, which provided enough space for all residents to participate together. Staff members from every department, including direct care, nursing and housekeeping, helped ensure that each resident was actively engaged in the celebration and received treats and prizes.
“Family and friends became part of the fun,” Burgins said. “The volunteers helped residents with their masks and costumes. What we do here is a blessing for all of us.”
“All of the staff here are dedicated to making this home the residents’ home,” Burgins said. “We continue to provide the holiday experiences residents may not otherwise have. You have to remember that holidays are 24 hours long. We try to continue the celebration through the first and second shifts so everyone, even those who may have been resting or away, can enjoy these special days with us.”
