Dunlap tops qualifying in Week 8 of JR Lanes match play
The eighth week of head-to-head match play bowling concluded with 29 participants
The eighth week of head-to-head match play bowling concluded with 29 participants. Alberto Dunlap earned the top qualifying position with a 495 series, which also earned him a complimentary entry into next week’s match play.
In semifinal action Friday, Jan. 9, Blaine Salisbury defeated Dunlap 209-171. Katie Mahaffey advanced with a 194-169 win over Chris Mahaffey.
In the final round, Salisbury defeated Mahaffey 216-182.
The night’s payout schedule awarded $200 to first place, $100 to second place, and $50 each to third and fourth. The sponsor for the event was Morning Wood Firewood.
“The competition is set to resume next Friday at 9 p.m., with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the finals in Week 17,” organizer Rayann Runevitch said. “Participants who bowl at least seven weeks without securing a win in the previous 15 weeks will qualify for the nonchampions week during the 16th week.”
JR Lanes also thanked bowlers and sponsors for their continued support.
“We are so glad that despite the weather conditions, our bowlers continue to come out and show off their skills in the lanes,” Runevitch said. “In addition to everyone that plays a part in our Friday night match play bowling, our sponsors deserve another big thank-you for their contributions. Without their sponsorship there would be no bowling here on Fridays.
“As we move forward with our competition, our desire is to continue the relationship we have with those that make our efforts a success through their kind sponsorship."
