Brooke sweeps Harrison Central in volleyball
It took only five sets for Brooke to sweep Harrison Central in varsity and junior varsity volleyball on Thursday, Aug. 21.
The Lady Bruins won the varsity match in straight sets, 25-8, 25-20 and 25-22. The junior varsity followed with a two-set win, 25-15 and 25-14, giving Brooke a five-set sweep on the night.
The loss dropped Harrison Central to 1-3 overall, coming just two days after a setback against Steubenville Catholic Central. The Huskies will look to bounce back against East Liverpool on Aug. 25.
“As I stated earlier, we are a young team, and we looked like it against Brooke,” Harrison Central head coach Grace Godich said. “Brooke’s team had nine returning varsity players on their side while we had but four. Brooke worked very well together and made little mistakes. I was impressed by their team. We again just have to gain some confidence in our abilities and learn to communicate better. That will come with time during the season.”
After a lopsided 25-8 loss in the opening set, Harrison Central showed fight in the final two frames. The Huskies closed within five in the second set before falling 25-20, and pushed the Bruins to the end in the third, dropping a 25-22 decision.
Harrison Central’s Hannah Grady finished with six kills, 12 assists, six digs and four aces. Leah Grady added six kills, seven assists, seven digs and an ace, while Emma Jarvis recorded four kills and seven digs.
