Though drawing 15 fewer participants than the previous week, the competition level in the third week of the head-to-head bowling series in New Athens remained high. The Friday, Dec. 5, match play event drew 20 bowlers, and as in week two, all 20 advanced to the next round.

Cody Peck emerged from qualifying with a 486 series, earning the top seed and a bye for next week’s match play.

In the semifinals, Jackson Romshak defeated Brady Tucker 202-197. Jacob Saffell topped Chase Barstow with a 245 to Barstow’s 189. Saffell went on to win the final, rolling past Romshak 183-150.

“The payout structure for the week remains the same. We paid $150 for first place, $75 for second place and $40 for both third and fourth places,” series organizer Raynn Runevich said.

“It is so nice to watch these talented bowlers face each other with the enthusiasm that gets everyone stirring,” she said. “JR Lanes makes this entire competition possible, and we appreciate them very much. We are still trying to draw more spectators, so anyone who loves bowling and wants to see strong competition should join us next Friday.”

“Next Friday, the 12th, week four of the series will begin at 9 p.m. Our ultimate goal over the next 14 weeks of our 17-week series is to not only identify the best bowlers, but to attract people who love the sport.”

“Our host, JR Lanes, would also like to extend their gratitude to all participants and look forward to seeing them next week. Also, a big shoutout to this week’s sponsor, Richard Eberhart of Eberhart Service Center,” Runevich added. “Along with JR Lanes, Eberhart’s made this week possible.”
