Shrivers Hospice is bringing back a community tradition. The remembrance tree will be lit up in the Court Square gazebo Friday, Nov. 21.

"I was involved with it in the past, and it was deer to my heart," Marge Donley from Shrivers Hospice said. “When I started here, the remembrance tree was something I wanted to talk to corporate about, and they fully supported the idea.”

To place an ornament on the remembrance tree in memory of a loved one or in honor of someone special, call 740-502-1772 or stop by the display table at Buehler’s on Second Street in Coshocton. Donley and her staff will make sure the name is put on a wooden, metallic gold, heart-shaped ornament and added to the tree.

“This is Shrivers Hospice's gift to the community,” Donley said. “It’s a way for us to keep our loved ones who are not with us anymore close to our hearts.”

The tree for the project was donated by Scheetz Tree Farm in memory of founders Kenneth and Joan Scheetz.

Donley said they have 500 hearts ready and waiting for names.

“Staff has helped paint, drill holes in them and put the wire in them for hanging,” she said. “Our team here in Coshocton is 100% involved.”

There is no cost to have a name added to the tree, which will be lit through the first of the year. Ornaments also will be reused next year.

“The holidays bring back a lot of memories, and it can bring some a little bit of peace to see their loved one’s ornament,” Donley said.
