Russell Gephart leads an hourlong line dancing
class at the Coshocton Senior Center every Tuesday at 9:15 a.m.
He started
dancing in 2002 and began teaching line dancing about two years ago.
"Everyone tells us, 'Use it or you'll lose it,' and I wasn't going to lose
it," Gephart said. "We are dancing to music from the '50s up to today’s
music. We don't just use country music. There is a lot of rock and roll.
You can use anything."
Vickie Young, Dawn Glatz, Alice Rogers and Raine
Hammond attend this class as well as one in New Philadelphia every week where
they dance for three hours. Becky Meyers was the line dance instructor at the senior center for more than 20 years, and they are happy to have it continue with Gephart.
"Line dancing is not just country music anymore," said Nicole Maynard, assistant to the senior center. "They are using lots
of different genres and styles for line dancing. Russell is always dancing
and always with a smile on his face. Every Tuesday we have yoga class
first thing in the morning, then line dancing and then a meditation class."
There are
always activities going on every day at the senior center. The center is having a casino day just for
fun and planning a pie in the face contest where you can pie your
favorite employee in the face on carnival day Thursday, Sept. 25. There
will be money jars in the window where you can pick your favorite
person. Each vote is a dollar, and the money will go for activities at the senior center. Utterly
Delicious is letting the senior center rent their dunk tank, and on that day, whoever has the
most money in their jar gets a pie in the face.
They are reaching
out to local businesses for cake donations, and they plan to have a cake
walk on that day.
A list of all activities for the month, the lunch menu and other information can be found in the newsletter at the
senior center and online.
