Coshocton Business and Professional Women held its 20th anniversary Wild About Cakes competition and auction Oct. 25 in Frontier Power's community meeting room. Cakes could be baked by individual cake makers in the community or sponsored by local businesses.

Wendy Higley, aka The Crazy Cake Lady, won the People’s Choice, and Avery Tiedt won for Kids' Choice with her upside down ice cream cone cake.

Avery Tiedt won for Kids' Choice with her upside down ice cream cone cake.

Higley has entered the last four years. The first year her cake entry was a spell book, second year a bucket of popcorn and third was a Christmas scene. This year her cake was dedicated to her dad, who recently passed away. The entry was a marble cake with chocolate fudge filling, decorated with memories of her dad including boots, Wrangler jeans, guns, a belt buckle, horseshoes and the red handkerchief he always had in his back pocket.

"It was a very emotional cake for me to do, but I definitely think he would have been proud of the outcome," Higley said. The cake sold for $40 at the auction.

Tiedt is 10 years old and in the fifth grade at Coshocton Elementary. She has been entering her cakes for the past four years and has won the competition for three of those years. Her upside down ice cream cone cake sold for $30.

BPW Treasurer Pat Talbot was auctioneer for the event. She thanked the sponsors and everyone for their generosity and monetary donations.

Proceeds from the fundraiser are used to support local nonprofit organizations, scholarships, school backpacks and supplies. BPW also has co-sponsored the annual Meet the Candidates Night with the Coshocton County Farm Bureau for 20 years.

The mission of Coshocton BPW is to empower all women through advocacy, education and information. Membership is open to men and women. For more information call or email Tomma Bordenkircher at 740-622-0009 or coshlbpw@gmail.com.
