High school volleyball: Claymont, Ridgewood, New Lexington earn early wins
Lady Redskins, Lady Generals and Panthers open seasons with strong performances on the court
Here are a few updates on high school volleyball from claxonsports.com.
Claymont defeats Coshocton
Claymont defeated Coshocton in straight sets 25-21, 25-13 and 25-17 in the Lady Redskins season opener. Mallorie Stamper had five kills, five assists and nine digs to lead the Lady Redskins. CHS’s Phoenix Celeschi had 15 digs, followed by Jazlene Brown with 10. Emily Truex had four solo blocks for CHS.
“We have a young team who are learning and growing every day,” Coshocton head coach Darcy Nelson said. “Today there were so many moments we saw great things to build on.”
The CHS junior varsity won its match in three sets over the Mustangs. The 'Skins lost the opener 13-25 but rallied to win the next two games 26-24 and 25-20.
“We loved celebrating the success of our JV team, who had a great comeback win,” Nelson said.
Ridgewood downs Malvern
The Ridgewood Lady Generals volleyball team defeated Malvern on the road three games to one on Aug. 19.
The Generals won the first game 25-14 before falling 12-25 in game two. Ridgewood finished strong to take the final two sets 25-21 and 25-14.
The Generals junior varsity lost 14-25 and 14-25.
New Lex takes out RVHS
The Panthers shocked the Lady Bears in five at River View on Aug. 19. The Bears won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-20. New Lexington rallied to take games three and four by the same score of 25-23. The Panthers took the deciding fifth game 15-9.
Haley Balo led the Bears with 28 kills and seven aces. Layla Olinger totaled 21 kills and 24 digs. Lindyn Fry hustled for 22 digs while Avie Wright had four blocks.
