Monday, Sept. 29 at the fair was the open draft horse and pony hitch show at 10 a.m. in the outdoor arena.

Ben Hastings of Ashland won first place in-cart for the men’s draft pony hitch show.

A dress code applies in the competition including shirts with sleeves, Western footwear, a hat but no ball caps and a draft-type harness. Hastings complied from his hat down to his boots, with sleeves rolled up, but it was hot that day.

Hastings’ Haflingers are a family-owned and operated team out of Redhaw.

"We've been coming here close to 20 years,” he said. “It's a little drive for us to come from Ashland, but we travel all over the United States. This is one of our favorite fairs."
