Eldercare Wisdom
Column: Take time to learn from older generations
Reflecting on the wisdom and resilience of those who came before us reminds us to appreciate life’s progress and family heritage
When homes had nice porches, they were family and social locations.
If you could go back four generations and sit with your great-great-grandparents, do you have any idea what you would talk about?
They wouldn't know anything about today's technology, maybe not even electric, phones, kitchen updates, fancy cars and local services.
Would you understand their conversations? At least you may be able to step into their shoes and learn how they coped with daily events and chores, gardening, travel, cooking, et cetera.
Walk a mile in their daily struggles and maybe you will appreciate how much easier they have made your life and be grateful.
You also can learn about who they are, their children who led to your parents and you, their history, their own spirituality, their hobbies, where their cemeteries are, et cetera.
I would love to go back to either my maternal or paternal side and enjoy a long visit on their porch. I would sure learn a lot and so would you.
