After expanding their existing businesses in oil and gas, trucking and portable restrooms, co-owners Bill and Trisha Patterson saw an opportunity to bring a new type of service to the local community.
The Pattersons also operate Patterson Specialty Services and Dark Water Haulers, and said their work in those industries helped reveal a need for more local supply options.

That idea became Waynesburg Supply, a retail and bulk supply business located at the former Sarchione Ford of Waynesburg property, focused on landscaping materials and hard-to-find essentials for homeowners and contractors in the Carrollton area.
Bill Patterson said he was already familiar with the property, having previously rented space in the back for his trucking business before it eventually came up for sale.
“We just kept running into situations where we needed something and had to drive 45 minutes to get it,” Bill Patterson said. “So we thought, why not bring those things here so people don’t have to leave the area?”
After purchasing the property, Bill Patterson said the original focus was on using the back buildings for his existing operations, but plans for the front space evolved over time.
After attempts to lease the space didn’t pan out, the Pattersons decided to put it to use themselves. As their existing businesses grew and office space became tight, the idea for a supply store began to take shape.
Waynesburg Supply officially opened in 2024 and continues to expand its offerings.

The business specializes in mulch, topsoil, decorative stone, gravel and landscaping materials, along with PVC pipe and culvert supplies — items Bill Patterson said were previously difficult to find locally.
“We wanted to bring more to the community so people don’t have to travel to Alliance or Canton,” he said.
The store sources its mulch and soil products through Kurtz Brothers, a long-established supplier, and continues to build relationships with wholesale vendors to keep pricing competitive. Bill Patterson said the goal is to offer quality materials at prices that are accessible for local customers, especially those working on smaller projects or trying to stay within a budget.

“We’re trying to keep things affordable for people here,” Bill Patterson said. “If someone can get what they need locally at a fair price, that’s what we want to provide.”
In addition to bulk materials, the business has begun expanding into nursery items, including trees, shrubs and plants.
“We’re trying to find good quality products that we can offer at a fair price,” Trisha Patterson said.
She said customer interest played a role in that expansion, with people frequently asking if the store would carry plants and landscaping items.
Waynesburg Supply also carries tools and equipment, including products from A.M. Leonard, known for durability and long-term warranties.
As the business grows, the Pattersons plan to continue adding inventory based on customer needs.
“Anytime we’re out and need something, we think, ‘Why don’t we have this in our store?’” Trisha Patterson said. “If we need it, somebody else probably does too.”
The business has also focused on convenience, particularly for smaller residential projects. The Pattersons said many customers only need small quantities of materials, prompting the company to invest in a smaller dump truck for local deliveries.
“A lot of people don’t need a big load,” Bill Patterson said. “They just need a yard or two, and we want to be able to serve that.”
Future plans include adding a greenhouse, expanding nursery offerings and creating display areas to help customers visualize landscaping ideas.
“We want people to be able to come in and see what it looks like — different mulch, stone, plants — and get ideas for their own yard,” Trisha Patterson said. “Your backyard should be your oasis.”
The couple said the business also helps support their broader goal of creating and maintaining local jobs. Across their combined operations, they employ roughly 55 to 60 people.
“It’s not all about making money,” Bill Patterson said. “If we can keep people working and provide steady jobs, that’s a win.”
Waynesburg Supply is continuing to grow and adapt, with plans to expand hours and inventory as demand increases.
The Pattersons encourage residents and contractors to stop in and see what the business has to offer before traveling out of the area.
“At least stop down and give us a shot before you make the trip to Canton or Alliance,” Bill Patterson said.
Waynesburg Supply is located at 300 W. Lisbon St., Waynesburg, and is currently open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. An open house and expanded summer hours, including Saturdays, are expected to begin in the near future. For more information, call 330-866-0486.
