Minerva’s Roxy Theatre to host comedy night and Tom Petty tribute shows in October
Alex Ortiz performs Oct. 17 followed by Shadow of a Doubt tribute band Oct. 18 as DORA hours extend downtown
Minerva’s Roxy Theatre will host two shows in October, featuring comedy and live music.
Krackpots Comedy Club of Massillon will present Alex Ortiz Friday, Oct. 17. Known as the “Boriqua Beast of Comedy,” Ortiz has performed on USO tours in 15 countries, appeared on HBO’s “Bad Boyz of Comedy,” Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend” and “Who Got Jokes,” and won Showtime at the Apollo’s “TKO Comedy” championship. His high-energy style blends life stories with uncanny voice impressions.
Tickets are general admission, with a limited number of front-row VIP seats, and are available at krackpotscomedy.com. For details, call 330-809-0360.
On Saturday, Oct. 18, the Roxy will welcome Shadow of a Doubt, a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers tribute band. Founded in 2009, the group captures the sounds and spirit of Petty’s career, including work with Mudcrutch, the Traveling Wilburys and his solo catalog.
Tickets are $25 and available at the Minerva Chamber office, 203 N. Market St., or online at minervachamber.ticketspice.com/shadow-of-doubt-tom-petty-tribute. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the show beginning at 7 p.m. Seating is general admission.
The Roxy Theatre, 114 N. Market St., is wheelchair accessible. Concessions will be available, and downtown restaurants will be open during both evenings.
The village’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area will be in effect from 4-10 p.m. Patrons may purchase beverages in official DORA cups from the Normandy Inn, Stoney Inn, Que Pasa Mexican Restaurant and Sandy Springs Brewing Company, and carry them throughout the designated area, including into the Roxy. No other outside beverages are permitted.
