60 YEARS AGO 

From 1966 FPS Files 

Seven young men, including one married man, filled Carroll County’s 189th induction call into the armed services. They were David L. Capper, the first married man drafted from Carroll County; Paul E. Spahr; Benny Jo Wright; Larry R. Campbell; Johnny R. Zimmerman; Richard B. Russell; and Larry E. Smalley.

Richard Rutledge was re-elected president of the Carrollton Board of Education. Other members included Earl Lowdermilk, newly elected; Howard Showalter, vice president; Dr. Ray E. George; and Ronald Davis. Charles Marshall was the clerk. 

50 YEARS AGO 

From 1976 FPS Files 

Members of Carrollton High School’s varsity girls basketball team for the 1976-77 school year were Deb Stull, seated left, Nancie George, Kelli Owens, Treva Cummings, Kathy Harper and Denise Abel; Jean Thompson, back left, Carol Morrow, Pam Long, Stephanie Seich, Cindy Bashaw and Coach Nancy Fogg.

Harold Haun was elected president of the Carroll County Board of Commissioners. Other members were Robert Eick and Russell Barrett. 

Daisy Harsh, longtime New Harrisburg FPS correspondent, resigned her duties. She was succeeded by Jackie Beamer.

40 YEARS AGO

Justin Graham was elected president of Dellroy Village Council. 

Wendell Smith was elected president of the Minerva Local Board of Education. 

Sarah Reed and Jack Polen were re-elected president and vice president of the Carroll County and Brown Local boards of education. 

The Warrior mat men defeated Tuslaw 53-15. 

30 YEARS AGO

Dr. Nan Bissell was hired as medical director by the Carroll County Board of Health. Her duties included overseeing the nursing department and medical-related aspects of the county health department. 

Ann Lloyd of Carrollton was the subject of a feature story on her hobby of constructing more than 100 paper structures after a visit to a Kansas City museum. 

Rick Sarbach was named president of GBS Filing Systems of Malvern. 

Jodie Tekip was hired as the girls softball coach at Carrollton High School, succeeding Marci Raymondi. 

20 YEARS AGO

Presidents re-elected of area school boards included Robert Foltz, Minerva; Rick West, Conotton Valley; and Chey Schubert, Sandy Valley. 

John Rutledge was elected president of the Carrollton Schools Alumni Foundation. 

Landen Wayne Rogers was the first baby born Jan. 1, 2006, at Aultman Hospital to Brandy and Wayne Rogers of Malvern. 

Carrollton senior Nick Castellucci was pictured scoring one of his 16 points in the Warriors’ 65-55 win over the Alliance Aviators on a Friday the 13th game.

Donnie Pallaye, Micah Williams and Dave Lucas were sworn in as new Dellroy council members. 

Longtime Carroll County Fair Board member and secretary Bob Bland was one of four people inducted into the Ohio Fair Managers Association Hall of Fame. 

Carrollton’s Aiden Pasiuk was named the most valuable wrestler in the Coshocton Sticheo Invitational wrestling tournament.
