Carroll County commissioners recognized the local Emergency Management Agency and accepted the resignation of the dog warden at their Aug. 14 meeting.
Commissioners approved a proclamation recognizing Emergency Management Recognition Day Aug. 15.
“EMA Director Tom Cottis and Deputy Director Dustin Lucas are recognized for their hard work, leadership and dedication to serving the residents of our community,” said Commissioner Robert Wirkner, who read the proclamation. The Board of Commissioners expresses its sincere appreciation to Cottis and Lucas for their invaluable service to our community.”
"Thank you for recognizing us," said Cottis.“We didn't get into this job to be recognized, but it is appreciated.”
"I think there is a tremendous amount of work that people within the general public don't recognize, especially the preparedness aspect of it,”said Commissioner Chris Modranski. "Preparing for any type of emergency hazard that may happen or may never happen is done very diligently.”
In an unrelated matter, commissioners accepted the resignation of Carroll County Dog Warden Cason Leggett, effective Aug. 15.
Modranski said Leggett accepted a position that is going to be better for him and his family.
"Congratulations to him, and I wish him well,”said Modranski. “I'm not going to hold anything against anybody who wants to try to better themselves.”
Commissioners approved a motion to name Deputy Dog Warden Merle Long as the interim dog warden at a rate of $18 per hour. Also approved was a motion to accept applications for the full-time position of dog warden/deputy dog warden until 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5.
In other business, commissioners:
— APPROVED payment of the following for materials or services purchased without a proper purchase order and certification, and authorized the county auditor to issue her warrant for payment of same: County — Loveless Exterminating LLC, $175; and Village of Cadiz, $362.65. Department of Job and Family Services — Carroll County Transit, $588.06.
— APPROVED a motion to issue a Notice of Commencement, Notice to Proceed and contract to The Aero-Mark Company LLC, with work beginning on or before Aug. 15 and completion scheduled for Dec. 13, in the amount of $93,700 for the Carroll County 2025 Pavement Marking Project.
