Atwood Yacht Club to host 75th annual Atwood Harvest Moon Regatta

The regatta, a signature event for the club and the region's sailing community, will welcome competitors and families from across the country for a weekend of racing, camaraderie and celebration.

The Atwood Yacht Club will celebrate a major milestone this fall, hosting its 75th Annual Atwood Harvest Moon Regatta from Friday, Sept. 5, through Sunday, Sept. 7, on the waters of Atwood Lake.

The regatta, a signature event for the club and the region's sailing community, will welcome competitors and families from across the country for a weekend of racing, camaraderie and celebration. Racing will include Thistle, Highlander, MC Scow and Cruising JAM fleets, with awards for the top three finishers in each category. Special honors will also be given to women sailors and MC Scow sailors in the Master (50–59), Grand Master (60–69) and Youth divisions.

The club has grown into a vibrant sailing hub and a member of both the Ohio Inter-Club Yachting Association and U.S. Sailing Association.

The Harvest Moon Regatta began in 1950, two years after the club’s incorporation. Its history stretches back to 1939, when Judge Frank F. Cope launched the first sailboat on Atwood Lake. Over the decades, the club has grown into a vibrant sailing hub and a member of both the Ohio Inter-Club Yachting Association and U.S. Sailing Association.

Known for its unpredictable winds and challenging conditions, Atwood Lake offers a true test of sailing skill. Many crews are family-based, adding to the regatta's inclusive atmosphere. Beyond the races, attendees can enjoy swimming in the club's new pool, dining and live entertainment. Spectators will find prime vantage points for photographing colorful spinnakers against the lake's natural backdrop.

To mark the 75th anniversary, the club's microbrewery will reintroduce its popular “Main Sail Ale” as a limited-edition commemorative brew. The regatta will also be certified as a Clean Regatta through the club’s partnership with Sailors for the Sea, with sustainable practices including refillable water stations, reusable beer cups and plastic-free dinnerware.
