Programs include 'Patriotic Orrville' and Earth Day activities starting April 14

Orrville Public Library will offer a variety of upcoming programs including a local history presentation, Earth Day activities and children’s events in April and May.

Orrville Public Library will host several upcoming programs for the community including events focused on local history, environmental awareness and children’s activities.

As part of its Orrville: A Local Story series, the library will present “Patriotic Orrville” at 6 p.m. April 14. The program will reflect on events that have helped shape Orrville as the country approaches its 250th anniversary. Participants will include Jenni Reusser, Mollie Curie, the Orrville Fire Department, the Orrville Historical Society, the Orrville Railroad Heritage Society, the Orrville Ohio History Information Center, the Orrville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3446 and the Orrville American Legion Post 282.

The free program will be held on the upper level of the library. No registration is required.

In recognition of Earth Day, celebrated annually April 22, the library will offer free trees while supplies last beginning April 17 at the information desk. The trees are provided by Secrest Arboretum. The children’s department also will host activities including a scavenger hunt.

Children in third grade through sixth grade are invited to attend Crafternoon at 4 p.m. May 1. Participants will create tissue paper water lilies as part of the monthly program, which encourages children to explore various creative techniques and media.

Registration for this free program will begin April 17 through the library’s website calendar at www.orrville.lib.oh.us or by calling the children’s department at 330-683-1065.

The library also will host a Ready for Kindergarten Play Lab for children entering kindergarten in the fall. The program will be held from 1:30-4:30 p.m. April 29, and participants may attend at any time during those hours. Children will receive take-home materials focused on kindergarten-readiness skills including scissor practice and learning letters and numbers.

Registration is required beginning April 15 to ensure sufficient materials. Registration is available through the online calendar or by calling the children’s department.
