Orrville City Schools to benefit from $160k Heartland investment

The Heartland Education Community Inc., in partnership with the Orrville City Schools administrative team and support staff, recently announced an investment of over $160,000 in educational, wellness and enrichment programs for the 2025-26 school year.

Through this collaboration, the district will advance learning, mentorship and community engagement opportunities across all grade levels.

Highlights of funded programs include the following:

—Character education: Heartland will support Rachel’s Challenge, school-wide events, student-led character initiatives, and branded materials that foster responsibility, resilience and integrity in students.

—Extended learning opportunities: Scholarships and funding for Camp Invention, outdoor education and Washington, D.C. trips. After-school and summer-enrichment programs will ensure year-round learning and exploration.

—Mentorship and wellness: Over $55,000 will be directed to OHuddle mentoring including the placement of a part-time site coordinator. An additional $2,500 will be dedicated to student and staff wellness programs.

—STEAM and innovation: A $2,500 allocation will enhance district STEM labs, promoting creative and analytical thinking among students.

—Support for English learners: More than $5,000 will fund targeted outreach and support services for English learners and their families.

—Community engagement: Heartland will continue to provide funding for the OrrViews newspaper and cover the printing and distribution of the district calendar to strengthen school-to-home communication.

—Youth development: A $5,000 investment in the Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club supports character development and leadership through the Positive Coaching Alliance.

Heartland’s leadership team also successfully procured more than $35,000 in additional grants from organizations including Wayne County Community Foundation, Aultman Foundation, and Austin-Bailey Health and Wellness Foundation.

These external funds further amplify the reach and depth of the district’s programs.

“This collaboration represents the best of what’s possible when school leaders, support staff and community partners come together,” said Dr. David Toth, superintendent of Orrville City Schools. “It’s not just about dollars; it’s about dreams being realized and futures being shaped.”
