Daedalus Quartet debuts in Wooster
Renowned ensemble to perform March 15 at Gault Recital Hall with works by Bartok and Mendelssohn
The Daedalus Quartet will make its first appearance with the Wooster Chamber Music Series March 15. The acclaimed ensemble, which began its career by winning the Banff International String Quartet Competition in 2001, has been praised by "The New Yorker" as “a fresh and vital young participant in what is a golden age of American string quartets.”
Since its founding, the Daedalus Quartet has performed in many of the world’s leading musical venues. In the United States and Canada, these include Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Library of Congress, the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C., and Boston’s Gardner Museum, as well as major series in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Winnipeg and Vancouver.
The quartet, which has been praised for its “fascinating and sublime" playing, will perform works by Bela Bartok and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel.
The Wooster Chamber Music Series has been bringing world-class musicians to the area since 1986. The Daedalus performance will take place at 3 p.m. in the Gault Recital Hall in the Scheide Music Center at The College of Wooster. Tickets are $25 and are available at the college's Mayer Bookstore and at the door. Middle school, high school and College of Wooster students are admitted for free.
