Wayne County spring craft show returns
Annual event in Wooster features over 100 handmade vendor booths March 13-14
The public is invited to celebrate spring with the Wayne County Arts and Crafts Guild’s annual spring show. The free event takes place from 4-8 p.m. March 13 and from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. March 14 at Greystone Event Center, 50 Riffel Road, Wooster.
This year will be the 56th annual Spring Spectacular Show. Cheryl Rastetter, co-coordinator of the event, said the show will feature more than 100 booths. All vendor items are handmade and will include artwork, candles, floral, jewelry, decorative and functional wood, sewn and crocheted, stained glass, soaps and lotions, artisan baked goods, handmade candy and fudge, as well as primitive and spring/Easter décor.
The guild was established in 1979. It was founded “to promote the arts in our community through art and craft shows as well as providing support to local schools and art programs,” said Rastetter.
Guild members are primarily from Wayne County and may work in a variety of media. Rastetter works in fiber arts — handcrafting mittens, scarves, hats and more from recycled sweaters and vintage fabrics.
The nonprofit organization holds two craft shows each year to help fund its service projects. One such project is making blankets for organizations like People to People Ministries.
Carol Fields is a lifetime member who still participates in shows at age 93.
“She has organized the blanket program for the last 10 years and helps line up programs for our meetings,” said Rastetter. “Carol does hand embroidery on tea towels (a favorite with many show visitors) and makes pet beds and fabric wreaths. She comes up with new ideas every year.”
Parking is free for the show, and there will be food available for purchase.
