Escher String Quartet to perform at Wayne Center for the Arts

Wayne Center hosts renowned ensemble for chamber music concert on Feb. 21.

The Escher String Quartet will perform a chamber music concert Feb. 21 at Wayne Center for the Arts as part of its winter residency in Wooster, featuring works by Mozart, Barber and Mendelssohn.

Wayne Center for the Arts will present the Escher String Quartet as part of the Wayne Center Presents Concert Series at 7 p.m. Feb. 21, featuring an evening of chamber music spanning three centuries.

The program will open with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s String Quartet No. 16 in E-flat Major, K. 428.

The concert will continue with Samuel Barber’s String Quartet, Op. 11. Following intermission, the Escher Quartet will perform Felix Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 2 in F Minor, Op. 80.

The Escher String Quartet — Adam Barnett-Hart and Bryan Lee, violins; Pierre Lapointe, viola; and Brook Speltz, cello — is internationally recognized. The ensemble serves as the season artists of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and is a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant.

This performance is part of the quartet’s winter residency in Wooster and offers audiences an opportunity to experience chamber music at the highest level in Wayne Center for the Arts’ concert setting.

While in Wooster, the Escher String Quartet also will appear with the Wooster Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jeffrey Lindberg, in performances of Edward Elgar’s Introduction and Allegro for Strings, along with works by Dvořák and Mendelssohn.

The performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20 and 3 p.m. Feb. 22, both at Gault Recital Hall, Scheide Music Center, 525 E. University St.
