Dorothy Matz celebrates 105th birthday
Wayne County Commissioner Matt Martin presented her with a letter of recognition
Wayne County Commissioner Matt Martin joined family and friends recently to celebrate Dorothy Matz as she marked an extraordinary milestone — her 105th birthday.
During the celebration at Wayne Manor, Martin presented Matz with a letter of recognition from the Wayne County Commissioners, honoring a life that has spanned more than a century of change, history and personal experiences.
“The Wayne County Commissioners proudly recognize and celebrate an extraordinary milestone — the 105th birthday of Dorothy Matz, whose life reflects strength and resilience for more than a century,” Martin read from the recognition. “On behalf of Wayne County, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes on this truly special occasion.”
Martin reflected on the importance of moments that bring people together.
“This is what life’s about — people and relationships,” he said.
Surrounded by a room full of guests, Matz shared lessons she had learned over her 105 years.
“I finally learned how to live one day at a time,” she said. “Just take it as it comes. I can handle one day, but I can’t handle the next day 'til it gets here — and it works.”
She also encouraged people to keep moving and stay active.
“Continue to walk; don’t stop,” Matz said.
Martin also presented Matz with a commemorative America250 challenge coin recognizing Ohio and Wayne County history as communities across the nation continue to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.
