Wayne County Commissioners recognized veterans
A proclamation marked May as National Military Appreciation Month
At the Greystone Event Center in Wooster, Wayne County Commissioners recognized May as National Military Appreciation Month during a Coffee Crew Breakfast with a proclamation ceremony honoring veterans and the ongoing work of the Wayne County Veterans Service Commission.
Observed nationwide each May, National Military Appreciation Month is dedicated to recognizing the service and sacrifices of members of the United States armed forces including active-duty personnel, veterans, reservists and military families.
During the ceremony, Commissioner Matt Martin, a Marine Corps veteran, highlighted the role the Veterans Service Commission plays in supporting local veterans through transportation services, emergency financial assistance, advocacy efforts and assistance connecting veterans with earned benefits.
“May is recognized across the United States as National Military Appreciation Month, a time dedicated to honoring the courage, sacrifice and service of the men and women of all branches of military service,” he said.
The proclamation said the freedoms enjoyed by local communities are protected by the dedication and commitment of those who have served in defense of the nation and by the county’s appreciation for military members and veterans whose service continues to strengthen the community and the country.
“This proclamation is not for me or for my office,” Wayne County Veterans Service Commission Director Jeff Shull said. “It’s for you folks. You are the veterans. You’re the reason we’re here.”
