The YMCA of Wayne County invites the community to a night of community impact.
Denim and Diamonds Casino Fundraiser will be held Feb. 6 from 6-10 p.m. at RES, 375 Fry Road, Wooster.
The evening will raise funds for Wayne County children and families by supporting scholarships for youth to attend summer day camp and access child care programs.
The 2026 version will be the YMCA’s 13th annual fundraiser to benefit its children’s scholarships.
“As it has gotten harder to get donors and expenses have increased, this is a fun way to raise money for the kids," said Angie Mullen, Wooster branch director. "Each year we change our themes to keep it fun and exciting.”
CEO Nikki Fehrenbach said funds raised go directly to families in need by providing scholarships to help children participate in camp and other Y programs.
“Every year,” she said, “we provide local kids with life-changing experiences at summer camp, help families access youth sports and swim lessons, and create a welcoming space for people of all ages to grow stronger in spirit, mind and body.”
Families seeking support may apply at either the Wooster or Orrville YMCA branches.
Just as a variety of community programs are seeing at this time, the Y is noting a greater need this year.
“More and more working families are falling into the gap, earning too much to qualify for traditional assistance but not enough to comfortably afford quality child care or enrichment programs,” Fehrenbach said. “That’s where the Y steps in. With support from our community and generous sponsors, we’re able to offer scholarships that help bridge that gap and ensure families don’t have to choose between financial stability and giving their kids meaningful opportunities to learn, grow and thrive. Without scholarship support, many families in our community simply wouldn’t have access. These funds remove barriers and open doors, and that’s exactly what the Y is here to do.”
Organizers describe the event as a lively atmosphere where country meets class. Casual dress suggests favorite jeans and a bit of sparkle. Partygoers can expect live and silent auctions with multiple items up for bid. There will be music, prizes, drinks, additional raffles and food, along with friendly competition and casino-style activities. A dinner buffet catered by the Andio Sisters will contain a variety of offerings. There will be a disc jockey with music and a small dance floor.
Tickets cost $50 each or two for $90 and include casino tickets, food and one complimentary drink ticket. Tables of eight are available. Tickets for the event can be purchased online at www.ymcawayne.org; by calling or stopping by the Wooster branch of the Y at 680 Woodland Ave., Wooster; or by calling 330-264-3131. The purchase deadline is Friday, Jan. 30.
Sponsors are still needed. Email Nikkif@ymcawayne.org or call 330-264-3131 for more information. Individuals who cannot attend the fundraiser but would like to help may reach out via email or phone for more information on making a donation.
“We're incredibly thankful for the generosity of our sponsors for this year’s event,” Fehrenbach said. “Their support plays a vital role in helping us provide access to life-enriching programs for local kids and families. Thanks to these partnerships, more children will explore the outdoors, make new friends and build confidence through unforgettable camp experiences. Investment in the Y is an investment in the future of our community, and we’re truly grateful.”
