Local artists explore color, culture, and creativity in a month-long show at Medina County District Library, Sept. 2–29.
The local artist group Women in Art
will present its 2025 annual art exhibit and sale Sept. 2 through Sept. 29 at
the Medina County District Library.
The group, organized by Barbara Johns,
includes artists Teenia Geig, Joy Amos, Deanna Clucas, Pat Newhauser, Darlene
Young, Helga Reid and Gail Martonicz. The theme this year will focus on the
colors of the rainbow, with each artist assigned one color to feature
prominently in her work.
Since the beginning of human history,
rainbows have been viewed as symbols of hope across cultures. In ancient Greek
mythology, Iris is the goddess of the rainbow, serving as a messenger
connecting people to the gods.
In the Bible, the rainbow marks God’s
promise to Noah that the great flood had ended. From leprechauns to Dorothy in
“The Wizard of Oz,” people around the world have long been enchanted by the
sight of a rainbow in the sky.
The science behind rainbows is equally
fascinating. Sunlight filters through tiny water droplets that act as prisms,
refracting and splitting the light into a full spectrum of colors. In a similar
way, artists begin with foundational colors and ideas, then channel them
through the prism of imagination to create a vibrant spectrum of expression.
The Women in Art group invites the
public to attend the month-long exhibition and to join them for an Artist
Reception on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 2-4 p.m. in the B. Smith Gallery on the
third floor of the Medina Library.
Guests are encouraged to wear their
rainbow colors in celebration of the exhibit’s theme.
