Warm Up Medina County Donation Day sets all-time record with 1,747 handmade items
Seven local agencies received knitted and crocheted hats, scarves, mittens and blankets as the long-running community effort marked its largest donation year since launching in 2004.
Warm Up Medina County Donation Day, held Nov. 25, marked a record-setting year as representatives from seven local agencies received a combined 1,747 knitted and crocheted items, including hats, scarves, mittens and blankets.
That total is 615 more than last year and the highest number collected since the program began at Medina County District Library in 2004. Over 22 seasons, the initiative has collected an estimated 18,385 handmade items for residents in need.
Warm Up Medina County is a grassroots group of needleworkers who knit and crochet throughout the year and donate their work to the library. Library staff then count, organize and distribute the items to local organizations such as Birthcare of Medina, Catholic Charities, Feeding Medina County, Hope & Healing Survivor Resource Center, Hospice of the Western Reserve, Medina County Job and Family Services, and the Medina County Health Department’s WIC program.
Organizers thanked the many knitters who gather at library branches, Western Reserve Masonic Community, assisted living communities and other groups across the county to contribute handmade items year-round.
