Medina County Historical Society to host festive holiday open houses and gingerbread displays
Seasonal events planned at McDowell-Phillips and John Smart House museums through November and December
The Medina County Historical Society will celebrate the holiday season with a series of festive open houses and gingerbread house viewings at its two historic properties — the John Smart House Museum and the McDowell-Phillips House Museum — throughout November and December.
At the McDowell-Phillips House Museum, 205 S. Prospect St., Medina, visitors can enjoy the Holiday Open House on Saturday, Nov. 22, from noon to 3 p.m., with rooms decorated in full seasonal splendor. The museum will also host a special Holiday Twilight Open House with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 3 to 6 p.m., when families can meet Santa Claus and experience the museum by candlelight, as well as Saturday, Dec. 27. Admission donation prices are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $7 for youth 7-18 years, and under 7 is free with a hand-holding adult. MCHS members receive a discount on admission.
Meanwhile, the John Smart House Museum, 206 N. Elmwood St., Medina, will open its doors for multiple Holiday Open Houses and Gingerbread House Viewings. Visitors can admire locally made gingerbread creations and tour the museum, which will be decorated in period holiday style. Events will be held Nov. 2, Nov. 16, Nov. 29, Dec. 4, Dec. 7, Dec. 11, and Dec. 20, offering numerous opportunities to enjoy the sights and sounds of the season. Admission to this museum is free with a non-perishable food donation.
Tours are also available by appointment. For more information, contact the Historical Society at 330-722-1341 or mchs@zoominternet.net.
