Historical Society announces lineup of fall events

As part of Weymouth Day Sales on Sept. 20, the Medina County Historical Society will offer vintage books, magazines, household items, and more for sale at 3335 Myers Road, with all proceeds benefiting the society.

The Medina County Historical Society has a full slate of events planned for September and early October, offering everything from vintage shopping and museum tours to gingerbread architecture and historic toys.

Kicking off the season is “Power Tools and Gingerbread?” – a special presentation on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m., featuring National Gingerbread House Competition winners Cheryl and Bill Filion.

The event will be in the Bee Culture Conference Room at Root Candles, 623 W. Liberty St., Medina. The couple will share techniques and experiences building award-winning edible architecture. Parking is available across the street next to and behind Root Candles’ tan brick building.

On Saturday, Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the society will take part in the Weymouth Day Sales at 3335 Myers Road, Medina. Shoppers can browse vintage books, magazines, household items and other treasures. All proceeds benefit the Historical Society. Organizers ask that there be no early birds.

On Sunday, Sept. 21 from 1-4 p.m., the Historical Society will host an open house at the McDowell-Phillips House Museum, 205 S. Prospect St. This stately Victorian home offers a glimpse into local history.

Admission donations are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $7 for students ages 7-18. Children under 7 are free with a hand-holding adult. Historical Society members receive a discount. The last tour begins at 3:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Sept. 7 from 1-4 p.m., visitors can explore the John Smart House Museum, 206 N. Elmwood St. This open house includes a final chance to view the “Yesterday’s Toys” exhibit, which has been extended by popular demand.

A scavenger hunt for children adds an extra layer of fun. Admission donation is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for students ages 7-18. Children under 7 are free with a hand-holding adult. Historical Society members receive a discount. The last tour begins at 3:30 p.m.
