West Holmes football falls to Triway in season opener
The West Holmes football team opened the season with a 23-21 nonleague loss to Triway on Aug. 22.
Knights quarterback Brayden Parsons finished 10-of-29 passing for 117 yards with a touchdown and an interception. His top target was Coi Beachy, who caught three balls for 44 yards and a score. Mac Craft caught one pass for 57 yards while Lynn Cline rushed for a touchdown.
Beachy led the defense with 16 tackles and three pass breakups. Braxton Blake had 13 tackles and recovered a fumble, Cline had 12 tackles and forced a fumble, Rhett Chaney had nine tackles and two pass breakups, and Craft had an interception.
Girls cross country
West Holmes won the 11-team Waynedale Gideon’s Run Invitational on Aug. 23.
Iriel Mena finished as the overall champion to lead the Lady Knights. Katherine Kaster finished second while Alexis Wagers placed sixth.
Boys soccer
West Holmes opened the season with a 3-2 nonleague win over Massillon Washington on Aug. 23.
Garrett Obrst led the Knights with a goal and an assist. Oliver Hiller and Kyden Porter also scored while Jimmy Wengerd had an assist. Jordan Gerber finished with four saves in goal.
Girls soccer
West Holmes played Minerva to a 0-0 draw in nonleague play on Aug. 23.
Landrie Crosky had six saves in goal for the Lady Knights. Strong defensive play by the backline of Katherine Kaster, Audrey Dixon, Bri Poventud, Sydney Hawkins and Lilli Brown made it difficult for Minerva’s offense.
Boys cross country
West Holmes finished fourth out of 11 teams at the Waynedale Gideon’s Run Invitational on Aug. 23.
Owen Neville paced WH with a ninth-place finish while Owen Mallasch finished 16th.
Girls golf
West Holmes beat Clear Fork 185-220 on Aug. 21.
WH’s Sophie Robb led all golfers with a 41. Mattie Shankel added a 43 and Aubrey Burchfield a 45.
Boys golf
Waynedale picked up a 172-182 win over West Holmes on Aug. 20.
WH’s Zane Kinsey was the individual medalist with a 38. Logan Allison added a 40.
Volleyball
Madison defeated West Holmes 25-13, 25-23, 25-14 in an Ohio Cardinal Conference clash on Aug. 26.
Mallory Marmet paced the Lady Knights with 11 kills. Lena Burgett had 12 assists, Harper Warner had five digs and three aces, and Camrie Wilson had three aces.
Dover downed West Holmes 25-9, 25-14, 25-10 in nonleague action on Aug. 21.
Burgett led WH with 13 assists. Marmet had five kills while Warner recorded two aces.
