West Holmes boys edge Garaway; Lady Knights drop pair of nonleague matchups
Sprang powers Knights to 53–48 win; Waynedale and Triway hand West Holmes girls early-season losses.
The West Holmes boys basketball team picked up a 53-48 nonconference victory over Garaway Dec. 2.
Nate Sprang led the Knights with 17 points and nine rebounds. Cooper Maltarich added 12 points and five rebounds, Coi Beachy chipped in eight points and seven rebounds, Preston Troyer scored six points, and Keston McKinney pulled down four rebounds.
West Holmes opened its season with a 62-52 nonleague loss to Strasburg-Franklin Nov. 26.
Nate Sprang led the Knights with 19 points and four rebounds. Preston Troyer chipped in 13 points and four rebounds while Coi Beachy also added eight points and three steals.
Girls basketball
Waynedale picked up a 40-31 nonconference win over West Holmes Dec. 1.
Briar Cline (10 points, six rebounds), Zalina Proper (eight points), Cara McMillen (seven points) and Lilli Brown (five rebounds) led the Lady Knights.
West Holmes fell to Triway 55-45 in overtime in a nonleague clash Nov. 26.
Proper paced WH with 16 points, four steals and three rebounds. Brown added nine points and nine rebounds; Cline chipped in seven points, four rebounds and three assists; McMillen contributed seven points and two steals; and Mari Patterson dished out four assists.
Junior varsity boys basketball
Garaway beat West Holmes 32-27 Dec. 2.
Cole Troyer led WH with 10 points.
