Troop 358 Hog Roast slated for May 2 in Millersburg
Millersburg event May 2 supports Scout trips with drive-thru meals and online auction
An important fundraiser for a troop of area Scouts will take place in Millersburg, and it should be a tasty one at that.
The annual Boy Scout Troop 358 Hog Roast & Silent Auction will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2 at Tope Printing in Millersburg.
The dinner is drive-thru, meaning patrons can simply pull up to the lunch stand and pick up their food with next to no waiting.
The meal includes barbecued pork sandwiches, baked potato, baked beans, dessert and a drink, with all expenses by donation. The Scouts will accept cash, check or credit card, and this event has proven to be a time-honored favorite.
Over the years this fundraiser has helped Troop 358 send Scouts all over the U.S., from hiking trips and scuba diving treks to mountain excursions that include ziplining.
It has helped create plenty of great memories for all involved and has helped build strong relationships among the Scouts.
“The troop would like to thank the community for supporting us all these years and in the coming year,” said Jeff Miller, Troop 358 Scoutmaster.
The fundraiser doesn’t stop with the food. Included in this event will be an online silent auction that has already begun and will continue through Sunday, May 17, ending at 2 p.m.
“We’ve once again got some neat items up for auction including a golf package and a tour of Holmes County,” Miller said.
Other items include a Scout workday that will see the Scouts work at the winning bidder’s choice, a Coach-Hadley convertible crossbody bag, bird feeders, tickets to the Akron Rubber Ducks, an outdoor activity bucket, a Cleveland Browns prize package, a Blackstone 28-inch griddle with hood, loads of gift cards, mulch from Kaufman Mulch, a Guggisberg Cheese basket, a Holmes Power gift basket, a Bunker Hill Cheese gift package, a pair of GCI outdoor freestyle rocker camping chairs and more.
Anyone interested in exploring the auction list or bidding on one of the many items can find the link to the auction at app.betterunite.com/troop358millersburg-annualhogroastsilentauction2026 or those interested can go to www.troop358mbg.org and link to the auction from there.
Miller said the excitement growing around Troop 358 is encouraging.
“Troop 358 Millersburg is the fastest growing troop in the Killbuck District right now,” Miller said. “We are up to 25 youths in our membership.”
Last year’s excursion for nine youths and two adult leaders to Sea Base in Florida proved to be a special trip.
Among the group, eight youths and one adult earned their advanced scuba certificates while at Sea Base, along with all 11 earning their snorkeling badge.
“The certification follows them throughout their life,” Miller said. “We even had a father and son who were able to use their training on vacation scuba diving on their own."
The trek to Sea Base was highly anticipated by those who attended, and once they hit the open waters of Florida, there was no turning back.
“The trip went really well this past year at Sea Base,” Miller said. “We had a blast, and the kids learned a lot. We made some great memories. That was something that will go with them for the rest of their lives. They will always be scuba certified now.”
These are the types of excursions and memories taking place for today’s Scouts, and Troop 358 continues to present plenty of opportunities for its Scouts to expand their horizons, which is why fundraisers like this hog roast are so critical.
Tope Printing is located at the light at the entrance of Glen Drive at 1056 S. Washington St. All winning auction items may be picked up from 6:30-8 p.m. May 18 at Millersburg Methodist Community Church, 5395 Township Road 336.
