In a reflective column, Angela Chapman urges readers to slow down, savor fall’s simple gifts, trust Scripture, and encourage one another while staying ready for Christ’s return.

Is it October again? It got here so fast.
I barely saw the previous season's last.
Ready or not, these months go on.
A day, a month and then the year is gone.
I can barely keep up in such a whirlwind,
Yet God does have each day pinned.
Many “to-dos” as each day unfolds,
But glory to God, each one he holds.
When you find time to sit and reflect on the day gone by,
Its memory is a blessing because God gave without a sigh.
The crisp, cool nights that give us a good sleep
Bring us joy in the morning when out of bed we leap.
We can notice details in the day:
The soft, gentle clouds as we pray,
Perhaps the still deer family, as we glance at the fields,
While we focus on Jesus, as our minds to him we yield.
We can make a filling day,
But Jesus first, and his way.
Redeeming the time now is a must.
More than ever, we must trust,
As we enjoy the fire pit nights,
And view the stars dazzling in their heights.
With the chilly nights and leaves turning,
Are signs of the times we can be discerning,
Being ready, because quick Jesus will come,
As fast as these seasons, and then some.
As we wait for Jesus’ return,
Let us keep reading our Bible to learn.
Let us not focus on the bad but on what we can do.
We can love each other as we share our autumn stew.
We can talk with friends as we’re cheering them on,
Encouraging while we sing to God a new song.
Around our camp the Lord enthralls.
He delights in his children whom he calls.
He knows the seasons’ beginnings and also their expected ends.
He’s always perfect and never late, giving grace for the day he sends.
