An upcoming event in Millersburg will intertwine a Christmas atmosphere and a hometown community flair.

If someone is looking for Christmas decorations to brighten the home or office this holiday season or is searching for a gift, there should be plenty to capture their fancy at the annual Millersburg Lions Club Christmas Craft Show Saturday, Dec. 6.

The show will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and one step through the door will open a Christmas wonderland of arts, crafts, cookies and more.

What makes it even better is there is no charge to attend.

Nearly every one of the Christmas craft items featured at the upcoming Millersburg Lions Club Christmas Craft Show will be of the handmade, homemade variety.

The Christmas Craft Show is a festive marketplace-type atmosphere filled with handmade holiday items and seasonal decorations. Picture rows of vendor booths and tables, each piled high with Christmas crafts, where patrons can peruse the aisles of tables and listen to soft Christmas music playing in the background while the whole space smells like cinnamon, pine and baked goods.

Event co-organizer Sue Dye said plenty of love and dedication goes into making this craft show one that brings joy while allowing shoppers to cross off some items on their Christmas gift list.

“We’ll have between 35 and 40 vendors with plenty of variety and a lot of neat Christmas gifts,” Dye said. “I think part of the allure of this is that people enjoy and appreciate handmade items.”

The show will feature all styles and types of Christmas ornaments, wreaths, knitted scarves, candles, soaps, pottery, toys, wall hangings, cookies, candles, wooden items, lap throws, knitted hats and gloves, candies, jewelry, and other holiday-themed crafts, all of which are homemade.

Dye said shoppers never know what kind of arts and crafts might show up, but this event is certain to put the “ho-ho-ho” in the holidays.

She said they have vendors and crafters from Walnut Creek, Dalton, Ashland, Killbuck, Millersburg, Shreve and many other towns throughout the area who will present a variety of merchandise.

“If it’s not Christmas-related, it will be Christmas gift-related,” Dye said. “People will be able to Christmas shop to their hearts content, and what makes it neat is that it’s different from year to year.”

While the Christmas gifts will be many, Dye said the event also serves as a wonderful place for friends, neighbors and even complete strangers to gather and enjoy a day basking in Christmas joy.

She said women’s groups, church groups, families and neighbors make a day of shopping and enjoying time together.

Dye said the event makes for a wonderful experience for those shoppers who are looking for something special and unique to give as a gift.

“It’s a great place to find gifts for Mom, Grandma, your wife, teachers and anyone who enjoys getting into the Christmas spirit,” Dye said.

The show will take place at St. Peter Catholic Church, 379 S. Crawford St., Millersburg.

Admission is free, and there will be a lunch stand available run by the St. Peter Catholic Women’s Guild, which will allow shoppers to peruse everything available throughout the afternoon without missing a beat.

The group also will offer a bake sale Dye said will feature loads of treats.

“A lot of people come in and buy a lot of cookies, take them home, and freeze them until Christmas gatherings,” Dye said.

In addition, there will be door prizes given away throughout the event. Dye said about every 30 minutes they will announce door prizes provided by the vendors.

All proceeds will go to the Millersburg Lions Club, which continues to support the community through donations of eyeglasses, hearing aids, special needs and more.

Dye said the group is always looking for new members, and anyone interested in serving the community in this capacity may contact any Lions member.
