Local girls swimmers head to state meet
Wooster, Dalton, Waynedale, and Orrville athletes compete in Canton Feb. 24-28
Several area high school girls will compete in the OHSAA state swimming tournament Feb. 24-28 at the C.T. Branin Natatorium, 1715 Harrison Ave. NW, Canton.
In Division I, Wooster will be represented by a 200-yard medley relay team of Ellie Hansen, Alessandra Gerber, Olivia Kelly and Piper Udell, seeded 14th. Gerber also qualified individually, entering as the 11th seed in both the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke.
In Division II, Dalton’s Grace Hostetler will compete in two events, entering as the 12th seed in the 200 freestyle and the eighth seed in the 100 freestyle.
Waynedale’s Anna Pittman qualified in two events as well, seeded ninth in the 50 freestyle and 24th in the 100 freestyle.
Orrville will send several swimmers to the Division II meet. Maddison Kraft qualified in the 100 freestyle as the 30th seed and the 100 backstroke as the 31st seed, while Zoe Kovacs is seeded 30th in the 50 freestyle. Orrville’s 200 freestyle relay team of Emma Nickles, Roz Teague, Kraft and Kovacs enters as the 16th seed, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Caelea Cochran, Teague, Kraft and Kovacs is seeded 24th.
