Holmes County extends 2026 dog license deadline

Dog owners have until Feb. 28 to renew licenses without penalty due to software glitch.

Holmes County has elected to extend the deadline for citizens to purchase their 2026 dog licenses to Feb. 28.

The deadline to register or renew a 2026 dog license in Holmes County has been extended. On Jan. 29 the Holmes County Commissioners, in coordination with the Holmes County Dog Warden’s Department and Holmes County Auditor’s Office, passed a resolution to extend the deadline for citizens to purchase their 2026 dog licenses to Feb. 28.

Thus, tags can be renewed or purchased without penalty until that date.

After switching dog license software for the 2026 dog license season, it was brought to the attention of Holmes County Dog Warden Jonathan Beam that some dog owners did not receive their renewal application in the mail due to a possible glitch or error in data transfer from the old system.

This issue should be resolved for the 2027 dog license season.

“Although renewal applications are not required to be mailed out, we understand that these sometimes serve as reminders for citizens to renew their dog licenses,” Beam said. “The county has decided to give dog owners an extra month to renew dog licenses without the penalty.”

After Jan. 31 dog owners can purchase their dog licenses either online at www.doglicenses.us/OH/Holmes/, at the Holmes County Auditor’s Office at 75 E. Clinton St. in Millersburg or at the Holmes County Dog Warden’s Department at 5387 County Road 349 in Millersburg.

The county’s satellite stores will not sell tags during the month of February. Call the Holmes County Dog Warden’s Department at 330-674-6301 or the Homes County Auditor’s Office at 330-674-1896 with any questions.
