Hiland girls blank Fairless to advance to district final
Lady Hawks cruise 5-0 as boys soccer, volleyball, and cross-country teams also shine in postseason play.

The Hiland girls soccer team rolled to a 5-0 win over Fairless in a Division V district semifinal on Oct. 20.
Chanelle Kellogg paced the Lady Hawks with two goals. Italee Mullet and Ally Mullet had a goal and an assist. Minka Mullet scored once, and Finley Hostetler had an assist.
“Great to get a shutout against a challenging Fairless offense,” Hiland coach Conner Lee said. “On to the next one.”
Hiland won a Div. V sectional title by defeating Ridgewood 4-0 in a sectional final on Oct. 15.
Kellogg led the Lady Hawks with two goals. Zoe Miller and Zuleyka Guzman scored once. Italee Mullet had two assists, while Ally Mullet and Minka Mullet had an assist.
“Good way to get the tournament run started,” Lee said.
Boys soccer
Hiland picked up a 2-0 win over Bishop Rosecrans in a Div. V district semifinal on Oct. 21.
Christian Mullet led the Hawks with a goal and an assist. Luke Bodiker scored once, and Bodie Gertz had an assist.
“Credit to Rosecrans,” Hiland coach Scott Bodiker said. “They came into the game with a good game plan designed to frustrate us. We are dealing with some injuries and were missing a few guys, which meant that we had some player combinations on the field together that haven't played an awful lot together. The weather became very challenging in the second half as well. Although those things combined to make it a frustrating night, but in the tournament, you just win and move on, and we are happy to do that.”
Volleyball
Hiland downed Buckeye Trail 25-14, 25-13, 19-25, 25-16 in a Div. VI district semifinal on Oct. 20.
Addi Mast (22 kills, 12 digs, three blocks), Brianna Mishler (44 assists, two aces), Alayna Yoder (11 kills, five blocks, two aces), Claire Detweiler (seven kills, 12 digs), Olivia Miller (26 digs) and Karli Schrock (six kills, three blocks) paced the Lady Hawks.
Hiland captured a Div. VI sectional title by beating Newcomerstown 25-16, 25-12, 25-11 in a sectional final on Oct. 16.
Mast (18 kills, seven digs, two blocks), Mishler (29 assists, two aces), Yoder (five kills, two blocks, two aces), Detweiler (five kills, two aces) and Schrock (six blocks) led the Lady Hawks.
Boys cross country
Hiland’s Landon Troyer advanced to regionals by placing 18th in 18:49 at the Div. IV Cambridge District on Oct. 18.
Jake Troyer and Jordan Scott also competed for the Hawks, finishing 43rd in 20:59 and 54th in 22:33, respectively.
