Hiland baseball rolls past Garaway, edges Indian Valley
Hawks combine explosive offense with dominant pitching
The Hiland baseball team rolled to a 14-1 six-inning win over Garaway in Inter-Valley Conference action April 13.
Gerut Monigold led the Hawks with three hits (two doubles), four RBIs and two runs scored. Christian Mullet (three runs scored, two RBIs); Grady Monigold (double, home run, four RBIs); Jonah Yoder (two runs scored); Damon Troyer (two runs scored); and Carson Yoder (two runs scored, two doubles, two RBIs) also had big days at the plate.
Andre Yoder earned the win on the mound, allowing one run on six hits with four strikeouts and five walks in five innings.
Hiland pulled out a 1-0 win over Indian Valley in IVC play April 8.
Mullet led the Hawks with two hits. Griffin Monigold drove in Grady Monigold with a double in the top of the first inning for the game’s lone run.
Michael Miller earned the win on the mound, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing four hits and a walk and striking out six. Andre Yoder pitched the final inning to notch the save.
Boys tennis
Hiland earned a 4-1 victory over Triway in NET play April 13.
Vlad Horkovchuk won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles. The first doubles team of Clay Lehman and Quinn Mullet won 6-1, 6-2, while the second doubles tandem of Noah Troyer and Ryan Baird won 6-0, 6-1. The Hawks won via forfeit at third singles.
Hiland picked up a 4-1 win over Canton South in NET action April 9.
Horkovchuk won 6-0, 6-4 at second singles, while Troyer won 4-6, 6-1, 10-4 at third singles. The first doubles team of Lehman and Mullet won 6-1, 6-1, while the second doubles tandem of Max Jones and Baird won 6-0, 6-1.
